Combating coronavirus: Over 1,300 farms, workers' housing facilities disinfected in Dubai

Some 1,338 farms in 16 regions in Dubai were recently disinfected, as the emirate's municipality steps up its sterilisation campaign to fight the spread of Covid-19 and keep farm workers safe, authorities said on Saturday.

Awareness and education initiatives were also conducted for 5,776 farm workers, according to the Dubai Municipality.

Dawoud Al Hajri, director-general of the Dubai Municipality, said: "The Dubai Municipality has always placed importance on the welfare of blue-collar workers and is committed to implementing preventive steps and raising awareness among them on safety practices.

"We have intensified field visits and follow-up procedures to ensure that workers enjoy a good standard of living and their health and safety are safeguarded."

Workers' housing facilities at Hatta hospital were also disinfected, said Mohamed Al Dhanhani, director of safety department at the Dubai Municipality.

These covered all facilities of the hospital, workers' rooms, and external areas.

Al Dhanhani pointed out that all products used for sterilisation in Dubai are evaluated, verified and registered in their system.

They contain the same active substances mentioned in lists approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency, and the lists of the Centre for Antibacterial Chemicals (CBC).
