The first data for the community is expected to be released by September 2021.

When the UAE's Hope probe reaches the Martian orbit next year, it will be gathering a wealth of data that no other mission had provided before. And the public will have free access to these scientific data through a website, a top official has said.

Hessa Al Matroushi, deputy project manager for science section at the Emirates Mars Mission (EMM), said: "The first data release will be for the whole community that is interested in analysing the data. It will be in September 2021. And after that, every month, the data will be updated in a website called: 'Emirates Mars Mission Science Data Centre'," Al Matroushi said during a seminar organised by the Italian Embassy on Thursday.

"This website will provide data access, quick looks and visualisation tools," she said. Access will be free but users will have to create a personal account.

Eighty days after its historic lift-off, the orbiter has already covered a distance of more than 200 million kilometres, nearing the halfway point in its odyssey towards the Red Planet. It is expected to enter Mars' orbit by February 2021.

Hope, the first interplanetary mission of the Arab world, blasted off from Japan's Tanegashima Space Centre on July 20. Since then, it has been on an 'outstandingly accurate trajectory', exceeding the expectations of the EMM team. Aiming to build the first full picture of the Martian climate, it carries three instruments to measure the planet's atmosphere and gather data.
