Kardashian and West, the First Couple?

How does America follow a reality TV star being given the top job? Vote in an even bigger one

'We the people...in Order to form a more perfect Union'...believe an admittedly musically gifted (though at best temperamental) rapper and his partner for whom we have renewed respect since her forays into criminal justice reform, yet whose career achievements largely consist of popularising the bleaching of various body parts, will 'secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity...'

Once again 2020, you've outdone yourself. In the off- chance you haven't heard, Kanye West is looking to trade up his presidency of the official Taylor Swift Fan Club to that of the United States meaning, through association, trash-TV queen Kim Kardashian would become the First Lady. And if further evidence something went wrong at CERN around four years ago and we've been living in The Upside Down ever since is required, you're greater cynics than we.

While it's not immediately clear West's bid for his country's top job in a July 4 Tweet was iron-clad, recent US politics is awash with stories of eccentrics and outsiders running an independent or third party campaign in the face of the Democrat-Republican duopoly. However, perhaps with the exception of 1992's Ross Perot, none have ever come sufficiently close to upsetting the balance. 'So it'll never happen?' May we redirect your attention to the date and everything that has occurred this year? Would you bet against it?

Maybe this could be the glorious shake-up for which American politics is begging? We can see it all laid before us: the TMZ cackling jackals debating socio-economic policy, Rose Garden addresses 'only on E!', Kourtney & Khloe Take the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration - oh, sorry, we appear to have scraped through the bottom.

Whether it proves to be a massive 'Ye', or the Kardashian-West charge hits a bum note before the ballots are cast, the mere existence of this story confirms we're through the looking-glass. How far will this '20s reality show go?
